Today is June 5th… World Environment Day! It's a special day for all of us to listen more carefully to what nature whispers to us, and to review our connection with our environment. Perhaps unknowingly, we come into contact with hundreds of plastics every day: market bags, water bottles, straws, packaged foods... And these seemingly small habits remain in nature for centuries, not decomposing, harming living creatures.
End Plastic Pollution
June 5th, World Environment Day: Let's Get Rid of Plastics!
Hello 🌿
Today is June 5th… World Environment Day! It’s a special day for all of us to listen a little more carefully to what nature whispers to us and to re-evaluate our connection with our environment. Perhaps without realizing it, we come into contact with hundreds of plastics every day: grocery bags, water bottles, straws, packaged foods… And these seemingly small habits remain in nature for centuries, do not degrade, and harm living creatures.
This year’s theme is “End Plastic Pollution” — yes, nature is saying enough is enough. And we should too.
Why is it so important?
Just think, it can take 450 years for a plastic bottle to disappear from nature. During this time, that plastic breaks down into micro-pieces, mixes into the stomachs of animals, mixes into water, and sometimes even ends up on our plates. I think this is an issue we can no longer ignore. Especially for people like us who see nature as a source of inspiration and love spending time in nature… Don’t we need to treat this world a little better?
So what can we do?
Let me share the first things that come to my mind:
-
Carry a cloth bag! It’s both stylish and practical. For grocery shopping, at the market, or on the beach. (I use cloth bags I make myself, which makes me extra happy ☺️)
-
Get a glass water bottle. Carrying a glass or stainless steel bottle instead of plastic ones is both healthier and much better for the environment.
-
Think, “Do I have enough?” When shopping, asking yourself “Do I really need this?” before buying something is very helpful.
-
Gently make others aware. Without getting angry or blaming anyone, just by raising awareness… Sometimes a conversation, a share, changes a lot.
We are not alone…
This struggle has not only an individual but also a societal and political aspect. Many countries are banning single-use plastics and supporting sustainable materials. But there is still a long way to go. As consumers, with the brands we support and what we buy, we are actually casting an invisible but very effective vote.
If we change, the system will have to change too.
Small steps, big impacts 💚
When trying to protect the environment, I value being conscious, not perfect. Sometimes we all make mistakes, but the point is not to be perfect, but to move forward with good intentions and transform small habits. Believe me, even a tiny change echoes in nature.
If you’ve read this, it means you are also part of this journey to protect our beautiful planet. Maybe today you’ll reduce your plastic use, maybe you’ll tell a friend, or maybe you’ll empty your bag and say, “This much plastic is too much for me.”
Whatever you do, nature will thank you. 🌍
